Governor

I am James McMahon, a Foundation governor at St Mary’s RC Primary School, currently serving a four-year term. I bring to the role over 20 years of governance experience here at St Mary’s, which has given me a deep understanding of our school’s community and values. Professionally, I have worked in finance at HM Tax Office and currently work as a DWP manger, a background that equips me with the skills to support the school’s financial oversight and strategic planning effectively.

My connection to St Mary’s is very personal. Both of my children attended the school, and I am passionate about ensuring that future generations enjoy the same high-quality education and nurturing environment that they experienced. This commitment has driven me to take on the role of Chair, where I am responsible for leading the governing body and working closely with staff, pupils, and parents to help the school thrive.

Outside of my governance duties, I enjoy travelling, particularly to Ireland and visiting my two children who now live in Australia. I’m also a keen supporter of Manchester United, which is a favourite pastime of mine. I believe it’s important to bring a well-rounded perspective to the role, balancing professional expertise with personal passion for the school and its community.

Being involved in school governance allows me to contribute meaningfully to the education and wellbeing of our pupils, and I am proud to play a part in shaping the future of St Mary’s RC Primary School.
